Enclosed Dome Stockyard System
When storage requirements exceed the practical limits of cylindrical silos (typically >50,000 tonnes), enclosed dome stockyards provide the most cost-effective solution. A hemispherical steel or concrete roof covers a circular stockpile, providing full environmental containment while allowing mechanized stacking and reclaiming equipment to operate inside.
Design Options
- Steel dome: Clear-span structure up to 120m diameter. Fast construction (3-6 months). Ideal for retrofit over existing stockpiles.
- Concrete dome: Monolithic reinforced concrete shell. Lower maintenance, longer life (50+ years). Better for corrosive materials.
- Hybrid: Concrete retaining walls with steel dome roof. Combines the advantages of both approaches.
Stacking and Reclaiming
- Stacker: Radial boom stacker rotating 360° around central column for uniform pile building
- Reclaimer: Bridge scraper, bucket-wheel, or front-end loader depending on material and capacity
- Capacity: 500-5,000 tph stacking, 300-3,000 tph reclaiming
Applications
Coal storage at power plants, clinker storage at cement plants, aggregate storage at quarries, and port bulk terminals where environmental regulations require enclosed storage.
The enclosed dome stockyard system eliminates wind-blown dust, prevents rain damage to stored materials, and significantly reduces the environmental footprint compared to open stockpiles.
